Well BIG news on The Sims Social release date, and by big news really we mean, no news in a way!
In an interview with EA CEO John Riccitiello speaking about competitor Zynga and EA's leap into social gaming alongside formats such as Facebook and iPad / iPhone he stated competition from other social gaming companies is the reason that no release date has or will been given. EA and Playfish have already told us that they are working hard on putting together the final touches to The Sims Social and have given us all plenty of content to wet our appetites before launch, but it seems the release date will most definitely just happen rather than a time scaled event.
The Sims Social is perhaps the title most hopeful to EA's social business. When asked by an analyst during the question & answer portion of the interview how many of the franchise's massive existing userbase would make the transition to Facebook, Riccitiello was unwilling to share.
"We aren't going to put out the stats," he said. "They're highly sensitive competitive comparisons, which is one of the reasons we're also not giving you a launch date." He continued "It's relatively easy for a competitor to buy all the relevant advertising, say 24, 36, 48 hours prior to a release," he explained, saying that such buys could hurt the company's chances of marketing the game.
